Delhi Satya Niketan Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Seven as Owner Is Apprehended

New Delhi, September 7, 2026: The death toll from the five-storey building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area has risen to seven.
The building housed a paying guest accommodation near Delhi University’s South Campus. Authorities are investigating the collapse, including reported renovation work and conditions in the basement.
The alleged owner has been apprehended, while five South Zone municipal officials have been suspended as authorities examine possible lapses.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced plans for periodic structural audits and safety certifications for buildings used for public purposes, including paying guest accommodation.
