FSSAI has taken legal action against Bengaluru-based British Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. after an inspection found a substantial quantity of misbranded infant food. The regulator also said 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant-food articles were ordered destroyed under court directions.

What is confirmed

FSSAI said regulatory measures followed food-safety inspections. The expired stock was ordered destroyed to prevent reuse, diversion or reintroduction into the food chain. These are regulatory actions, not a criminal conviction.

Why infant food requires stronger controls

Parents and caregivers often cannot independently verify composition, shelf life or labelling at purchase. Accurate labels, traceability and storage controls are therefore especially important.

• How was expiry information monitored?
• Did any affected products reach retailers or consumers?
• What labelling requirements were allegedly breached?
• What further penalties or proceedings will follow?
