The Allahabad High Court has transferred the disappearance of Muttliv to the Central Bureau of Investigation after identifying contradictions in the local police account of what happened after his release from jail.
What is established
Reporting on the court proceedings says Muttliv was released on bail from Bahraich Jail on May 4, 2026. He was subsequently allegedly detained with his father by Purkazi police. His father was later released while Muttliv remained missing. Police denied detaining him and said officers were searching for him to execute a court-issued warrant.
Why the CBI probe matters
The court has not finally decided what happened to Muttliv. Its intervention reflects concern that the existing investigation could not reliably answer that question. Reported discrepancies include issues involving warrant dates and the failure to examine relevant witnesses. The CBI is expected to investigate and submit a preliminary report.

What this investigation does not establish
Muttliv has not been judicially declared dead, and the High Court has not found that police killed him. The court ordered an independent investigation because the available record was insufficient to establish what happened. Allegations of police involvement therefore remain allegations unless supported by evidence.
